Cooling wall is a kind of cooler commonly used in blast furnace, which can be divided into cast iron cooling wall, copper cooling wall, steel cooling wall and steel-copper composite cooling wall.The working principle of the cooling wall is: the heat transferred from the blast furnace can be exported smoothly through surface cooling to avoid the high-temperature heat flow directly reaching the furnace shell. The cooling wall is installed between the brick lining and the furnace shell to achieve this effect.In modern blast furnace with full cooling wall structure, cooling wall or water wall is installed in the shell from bottom to throat, which constitutes the full cooling furnace structure.The heat from the blast furnace is transferred to the environment through the exchange of heat with the cooling wall.

Cast iron cooling wall is composed of cooling wall body and internal cooling water pipe.The smooth cooling wall is mainly used at the bottom of the hearth and the brick cooling wall is mainly used at the belly, waist and body of the hearth.Cast iron cooling walls are cooled by the cooling water embedded in their internal steel tubes. Hot face inserts are used to reduce heat loss and to bond slag skin. When the brick lining erosion disappears, the cooling walls can still be maintained by bonding slag skin and provide protection for the furnace shell.The cooling wall has the following functions :(1) provide comprehensive and effective cooling for the refractory lining on its hot side, and control the working temperature of the brick lining within a reasonable range;(2) When the brick lining from the furnace abdomen to the lower part of the furnace disappears, under the condition that the cooling wall loses the brick lining protection, protective slag skin can be formed on its hot surface to form "self-protective lining";(3) Provide comprehensive protection for the furnace shell;(4) Maintain the smooth and smooth operation of the blast furnace, in order to facilitate the burden down and proper distribution of gas flow;(5) Reduce the heat loss of blast furnace;(6) The cooling wall should exist in harsh working conditions for a long time to provide effective cooling for the blast furnace.
