Fructus Lycii is mainly produced in such places as Baiyin, Zhangye, Pingliang, Qingyang, Linxia and Lanzhou of Gansu Province. It is listed as top grade in the Shennong's Herbal Classic. It is sweet and mild; it passes through liver and spleen. Its functions include nourishing liver and kidney and replenishing the vital essence to improve eyesight. It is mainly used for such symptoms as consumptive disease and deficiency of spermatozoa, sore waist and knee, dizziness and tinnitus, impotence and spermatorrhea, internal heat dispersion-thirst, blood deficiency and chlorosis and blurred vision. It is also called "Quelaozi", with the function of delaying and resisting aging.
