Zhejiang Hangji Machine Tool Co., Ltd. was founded in 1921. Its predecessor was Large Iron-smelting Works. In November 1951, it was purchased by Hangzhou Municipal People's government from private entrepreneurs and renamed Hangzhou Iron Works. In November 1957, it was renamed Hangzhou Machine Tool Works.
